Godsmack burst onto the scene in the mid-1990s from Lawrence, Massachusetts, led by Sully Erna with bassist Robbie Merrill and guitarist Tony Rombola. The band quickly built a fierce live reputation and a devoted underground following, ultimately signing with a major label and releasing their self-titled debut in 1998.
